Spring 2010 Term Meeting Notes

Last week we had our last meeting for this winter term.

TOPICS DISCUSSED AT MEETING FROM MARCH 1, 2010

BUDGET- We are having a spending freeze till Fall-term. Many supplies can be donated and our stock of supplies will last till the end of the year. I will send out a wish list of supplies/goods our park uses throughout the year. This will also be posted at the bulletin board at DIP.

CHURCH BUSINESS-We paid the church $200.00 for the use of their space and another $50.00 at the end of the year (Fall-term we paid $150.00, so we were short last term)

TOY CLEANING DATE : MARCH 12TH PLEASE COME HELP CLEAN OUR PARK AND TOYS =)We will be weeding out the misfit toys of the park.

BYLAWS-Bigger kids, no running in park, keep ride on toys off of carpet area. All food needs to stay in designated snack area.

PARK POSITIONS- We are now filling our park positions for next Fall -Term. If you are able to help run our town play park in any aspect- please sign up for one or more of the following positions. The description of the positions are in the rules & regulations paperwork.
LEAD COORDINATOR, SECRETARY, CRAFTS LEAD, CRAFTS, LIBRARIAN, TOYS LEAD, TOYS, PARTY-SOCIAL LEAD, PARTY SOCIAL, SWAP TABLE, ADVERTISEMENT, MONDAY OPENER, MONDAY CLOSER, WEDNESDAY CLOSER, FRIDAY OPENER, FRIDAY CLOSER #1, FRIDAY CLOSER #2.

POSITIONS FILLED: Wednesday opener- Kellie, Treasurer- Shari, Purchasing- Jane, Donation/Grant coordinator-Mary Ann

NEW POSITION: Donation/Grant Coordinator- Solicits funds for play park and supplies possible new floor end of next year if companies are generous with donations.

BLOG SITE - DIP blog site is updated with a contact phone number.

BULLETIN BOARD AT PARK- Open for members to use to post, sell or need a service or item.

EASTER EGGS- Please take 1 dz or more empty plastic eggs home, fill with candy and return to park by March 20th for the Egg hunt the following week. Plastic eggs are at the sign-in table and many more are in the kitchen in a plastic tote bin.

Holiday Party Coming Up!

The Dallas Indoor Play Park Holiday Party is Friday, December 11th! Come join us for crafts, snacks, and a special visit from Santa! Please sign up at the Park to bring a party food item to share.

***We still need someone to fill Santa's suit! Please let Mary Ann know if you are able to play Santa for our party!***

General Reminder-

Please keep food & beverages in the designated snack eating area. There have been a lot of crumbs and spills throughout the play area lately and this will help keep the park clean and the bugs out.

Closers- Please sweep and vacuum when needed if it has been a messy day at the park.

Fall Semester Information

FALL INDOOR PARK MEETING DATES: First meeting will be Friday Oct. 16th and the second meeting will be Wednesday Oct. 21st. Both will begin at 10:00am and last about 30 min. (kids play while meeting is taking place) *All Dallas Indoor Park Members must attend one meeting per term.

DUES: FALL MEMBERSHIP FEE IS DUE BY OCT. 16TH. We pay the church our ($200.00) donation check at the end of this month for usage of their building for the play park.

Membership fee per term is: $20.00. Mops special for this Fall-term only is $15.00. Openers/Closers receive a discount rate of half the dues per term served. See Mary Ann or Kristy if you have any questions or may need a scholarship for Fall term.

TOY CLEANING DATE: Monday Nov 2nd. To help keep the play park as germ free as possible this year, we are going to have two Toy Cleaning dates per term. The second one this term will be in Mid-Dec. Members are encouraged to help clean toys and park area; it goes by quickly when there is a large turn out.

PARTIES: Harvest Party Friday Oct. 30th, Turkey Party Wednesday Nov. 18th, Christmas Party Friday Dec. 11th.

CALENDAR: We will be open on school holidays excluding Thanksgiving & Christmas. Members need to sign up to open/close on the other school holidays. If no one signs up-on the calendar, then we will be closed on those days. Calendar is on the wall by sign up table.

HALLOWEEN COSTUME EXCHANGE/SWAP-*Begins next week Oct. 5th. Bring your costumes you won't be wearing this Halloween to DIP. We will be having a exchange/borrow costume table set up in the kitchen next to the swap table. Here's how it works: Sign your costumes in, another member checks them out and brings the costumes back to DIP the week following Halloween.

Summer Time!

Today was the last day of Indoor Park for the semester, we will start up again on Wednesday, September 2nd. Until then here's the schedule of summer events that are open to everyone, not just DIP members:

June 18th - Thursday - Library Event: Music at the Civic Center 3:00pm

June 19th - Friday - DIP Event: Dallas Aquatic Center. Group rate is $1.50 per person. Meet at pool at 10:00am, 1005 SE La Creole Dr. Dallas. Please Bring Cash for swimming pool fee.

June 25th - Thursday - DIP Event: A.C. Gilbert House. Group rate is $3.75 per 10 or more DIP members (children under age one are free). Please Bring Cash for entrance fee, one adult chaperone per five kids. Meet at 10:00am at the entrance.

June 25th - Thursday - Library Event: Comedy at Dallas City Park under main Pavilion 3:00pm

July - DIP Event: Dallas Police Station Tour *TBA*

July 2nd - Thursday - Library Event: Magic Show at Dallas City Park 3:00pm

July 9th - Thursday - DIP Event: Independence Movie Theater presents "New" Ice Age in 3D. Group rate is $5 per person for 25 or more in our group. This will enable us to have a private theater before doors open up to the public. There is also a kids "Movie Snack Pack" available for purchase; includes a soda or lemonade, snack & popcorn for $3. The theater will have these set up prior to our arrival if we tell them how many to make the day before. If you want a snack pack email maryannliss@hotmail.com 2 days before the event. Bring cash! Movie starts at 9:30am and we'll meet in front of the box office at 9:00am.

July 9th - Thursday - Library Event: Puppet Show at Dallas City Park 3:00pm

July 9th - August 27th - Sounds of Summer: 6:30 -8:30pm live music. Free at the Rotary Performing Arts stage on the corner of Main St. and Academy St.

July 21st - Tuesday - DIP Event: Scotty's Playhouse in McMinnville. NW's largest indoor play structure. Free for children ages 11 and under. Meet at 10:00am and it is open until noon. 700 N Hill Rd. (503) 472-8476

July 23rd - Thursday - Library Event: Storyteller at Dallas City Park 3:00pm

July 25th- DIP Event: Summerfest Parade 10:30am. Theme is "Oregon's 150th Birthday Celebration". Please contact maryannliss@hotmail.com if you would like to walk/ride with our DIP group in the parade!

July 23-26th- Summerfest Activities:
  • Breakfast in the Park: Pancakes, eggs, ham, juice/coffee in Dallas City Park. Fee paid at food line, park entrance is Levens St.
  • Arts in the Park: Free childrens area with activities (near new play area, Academy park entrance)

August 4th - Tuesday - DIP Event: Salem Caousal meet at 10:30am at the Salem Waterfront Park. Fee is $1.50 per ride (parent can ride free is standing next to child). There's an outside play park next to the carousal. Pack a lunch, snack, and drinks if you plan on staying longer. Great area to fly a kite or bring bikes!

August 6th - Thursday - DIP Event: Kids Bumper Bowling at Star Lite Lanes in Dallas. Meet at 394 Main St. at 11:30am. Cost is $5 per child and includes 2 games and shoe rental.

Winter Term is almost over!

The end of Winter term is coming for Indoor Play Park & we will celebrate the upcoming summer with our yearly Luau on May 29th, Fri. the last day of this term. There will be fun crafts at this potluck event. Sign-up sheet will be at the front table to bring a treat to share.

FALL TERM POSTIONS- If you're able to be more involved next term, please let me know if you're able to take on an Indoor Park postion for the upcoming Fall term in Sept. A new postion sign up sheet will be at the park sign-in table or you can email me if you are interested in one of the Parks postions. The main postions are: openers/closers, Secretary, Treasurer other positions are: Toys, Purchaser, Crafts, Party, Bulletins, and Librarian.

For everyone who took on more responsibilities at Dallas Indoor Park this year in one of of positions "Thank You" for helping our co-op play park run smoothly.

Parade- If you plan on being in the parade this year let Maryann know and she will send out details of the event as it draws nearer in July. We are working on coordinating a float this year and riding bikes.
